In July 2019, three members of the Kawartha Junior Beekeepers Program made history by becoming the first North American representatives to attend the International Meeting of Young Beekeepers (IMYB) in Slovakia. Following nearly a year of intensive fundraising, specialized training, and community support, these young Canadians joined peers from around the globe for a series of multinational beekeeping competitions and cultural exchanges. During the event, participants were divided into diverse international teams to test their practical skills, handle docile bees, and evaluate unfamiliar European honeys. Alongside the rigorous challenges, the attendees enjoyed sightseeing excursions, social gatherings, and country presentations that highlighted global apiculture practices. Ultimately, the Canadian delegation earned special recognition for their debut attendance, while one of their mixed-nationality teams secured an impressive second-place finish. #honeybees #valleybeekeeping
